Consider the conductances of the following 0.025 M solutions. How many strong electrolytes (SE), weak electrolytes (WE) and nonelectrolytes (NE) are there
Conductance (mS) |
SE/WE/NE |
|
A |
0.4 |
|
B |
7.2 |
|
C |
0.0 |
|
D |
0.2 |
|
E |
2.6 |
|
F |
0.6 |
|
G |
0.7 |
Strong electrolytes(SE) are the one which dissociates completly and give more conductance & its value is more than 1
Weak electrolytes(WE) are the one which dissociates partially and giveless conductance & its value is less than 1
Non-electrolytes(NE) are the one which does not give any conductance so its value is ZERO.
From the given table ,
B & E have conductance 7.2 & 2.6 respectively & these values are more than 1 so these are strong electrolytes. Therefore there are totally two(2) are SE.
A,D,F & G have conductance 0.4 , 0.2 , 0.6 & 0.7 respectively & these values are less than 1 so these are weak electrolytes.Therefore there are totally four(4) are WE.
C has conductance value '0'(ZERO) so it is a non-electrolyte.Therefore there is only one(1) NE.
