You need to analyze two samples: a) from gas station tank (gas quality test) b)crop extract for pesticide presence. Which separation method will you choose and why?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

(a) Gas chromatography is commonly used as a separation method for analyzing gas samples because this method has high resolution power. It is more accurate and has more precision.

(b) To analyze crop extract for pesticide presence the separation methods such as pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) and supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) using aqueous solvent are applied. Aqueous extraction is preferred because alomost all pesticides are soluble in water. Water as a solvent is easily available, safe to use and also less costly.

To compare water quality from wells in two different areas, water samples were taken from 50 wells in the first area, tested, and 31 were found to meet standards. From the second area, 42 out of 60 wells were found to meet standards. Use the p-value method to test the claim that both areas have the same proportion of wells that meet standards at the 95% confidence level. Based on this result, does there appear to be a significant difference...
