What is Potential Energy? What is Entropy? Provide several examples of changes in either of these properties of matter.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Potential energy --> is th energy of a certain body due to it srelative position to all other objects/forces. This can be seen as "hidden" or "kept" energy, since it cna be used (electrostatic charge/gravitational/etc)

Entropy ---> Measure of chaos/disorder in a system. It increases as Temperature increases

examples:

potential energy:

changes as we go higher in altitute with respect to sea level. This is mainly due to the gravitational force/pull

entropy:

the content of disorder in a gas is much higher than in an ordered/well packed solid material
