The label on a bottle of vinegar indicates that it is 3.5% acetic acid (CH3COOH). If the density of the solution is 1.90 g/mL, what is the molarity of the solution?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Given here is acetic acid is 3.5 %

Which means there are 3.5 gm of acetic acid / 100 gm of solution

Molar mass of Acetic acid = 60.05 g/mol

density (given) = 1.90 g/mL

Volume of solution = 100 g/ 1.90 g/mL

                               = 52.63 mL = 0.0526 L

moles of acetic acid = 3.5 g / 60.5 g/mol

                                 = 0.0583 moles

Molarity = moles/L

              = 0.0583 / 0.0526

              = 1.11 M

Thus, molarity of solution is 1.11 M
