Homework Answers

Answer #1

A. Spontaneity. Whether or not a reaction would occur as is written by a chemical reaction scheme is determined by thermodynamic parameters such as the relative enthalpies, Gibbs energies etc. of the reactants and products. A reaction is said to be spontaneous if the change in Gibbs energy is negative.

B. Kinetics- Kinetics predicts the rate at which the reactions proceed; i.e., the rate at which the reactants are converted to products.

C. Reaction rates are usually measured as change in concentration of the reactants or products with time. Hence, molar concetration per time is the unit.

D. The reaction rates can only be found out if and only if the reactants or products are measurable and the change in their concentrations with time are measured.
