In the IR spectrum of hexane, the absorption at around 3000 Cm-1 corresponds to C-H stretching; very clearly 2962 Cm-1 (CH3 asymmetric stretch), 2926 Cm-1 (CH2 asymmetric stretch), 2872 Cm-1 (CH3 symmetric stretch), 2853 Cm-1 (CH2 symmetric stretch).

In the IR spectrum of 1-hexyne, the absorption at around 3300 Cm-1 corresponds to stretching and an absorption around 3000 Cm-1 corresponds to C-H stretching; very clearly 2962 Cm-1 (CH3 asymmetric stretch), 2926 Cm-1 (CH2 asymmetric stretch), 2872 Cm-1 (CH3 symmetric stretch), 2853 Cm-1 (CH2 symmetric stretch).​
