Solid state phase transition has many different and distinct characteristic features from other types i.e solid-liquid phase transition, liquid-gas phase transition.

In solid state phase transition resistance of a material changes due to orientation change in lattice.

Solid state phase transition sometimes gives color whereas other types can not produce color. Thermochromic systems are available now. e.g. Ag₂HgI₄.

Solid state phase transition always gives a new lattice crystal where the band gaps are different from the initial one.
