What mass of carbon dioxide is present in 1.00 m3 of dry air at a temperature of 15 ∘C and a pressure of 699 torr ?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

V   =1m^3    = 1000L

T = 15+273    = 288K

P   = 699 torr    = 699/760    = 0.9197atm

PV   = nRT

n     = PV/RT

        = 0.9197*1000/0.0821*288    = 38.89moles

mass of CO2 = no of moles * gram molar mass

                       = 38.89*44    = 1711.16g of Co2 >>>>>answer

n this week's experiment you will determine the molar mass of carbon dioxide by measuring the mass of an Erlenmeyer flask full of the gas. The following calculations are intended to familiarize you with the general procedure: The mass of an empty Erlenmeyer flask and stopper was determined to be 58.85 grams. When filled with distilled water, the mass was 303.4 grams. The atmospheric pressure was measured to be0.9385 atm, the room temperature was 20.00oC. At this temperature, the vapor...

Dry ice is simply frozen carbon dioxide (carbon dioxide in the solid state) and is pretty cold with a temperature of -109.3 degrees F (-78.5 degrees C). For comparison, liquid nitrogen is MUCH colder at -321 degrees Fahrenheit (-196 degrees Celsius). The carbon dioxide in dry ice will also go directly from the solid state (frozen carbon dioxide) to the gaseous state You have 2.44 grams of dry ice in a 6.0 Liter container maintained at 31.2O C.
