Why is steam distillation considered to be an “isolation technique” and not a "purification technique"?
In distillation technique we just keep hearing the mixture and according to boiling point of different substances they evaporate. We collect them. Hence in distillation we isolate each substance. But in purification our aim is to isolate the main substance which is not possible in distillation. In distillation every substance will get isolated wheather it is our interest or not that's why it's not an purification technique.
For example if we have iron ore and we have gold and silver as impurities then in purification our aim is to isolate iron separately and gold and silver combinely but in distillation we will get all three substance separately.
