Suppose you collected oxygen gas over water, allowing it to be saturated with water vapor. The total pressure of the oxygen plus water vapor equals 750.5 torr at 25 degree C. What is the pressure exerted by only the oxygen molcules?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Total Pressure of Oxygengas = Pressure of Oxygen + vapour pressure of water

Pressure of Oxygen = Total Pressure of Oxygengas - vapour pressure of water

                               = 750.5 - 23.8   ( vapour pressure of water at 25 C= 23.8 torr)

                              = 726.7 torr.

Pressure of Oxygen = 726.7 torr.
