calculate the temperature and composition of the first drew created from a saturated vapor mixture of o-xylene and p-xylene containing 45 percent o-xylene at 200 kpa. the mixture of o-xylene and p-xylene may be considered as idea

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Given percentage of o-Xylene = 45%

Composition of o-xylene = 45/100 = 0.45

Percentage of p-Xylene = 100 - 45 = 55%

Composition of p-xylene = 55/100 = 0.55

Pressure of O-Xylene = 200 kpa

According to:

Total pressure of mixture:

Po-xylene = XComposition of 0-xylene * PTotal

200 = 0.45*Ptotal

PTotal = 200/0.45

=444.4 kpa

Molefraction of o-xylene = (composition of o-xylene*Ptotal)/(Po-xylene)

= (0.45*444.4)/200

= 0.99

Vapour pressure of p-xylene:

Pp-xylene = composition of p-xylene*PTotal

= (0.55*444.4)

=244.4 kpa

Molefraction of p-xylene = (composition of p-xylene*Ptotal)/(Pp-xylene)

= (0.55*444.4)/244.4

= 0.99

Using following equation will get the temperatures for components of mixture:

ln(P2/P1) = ∆Hvap/R(1/T1-1/T2)
