If a sample of sodium hydroxide is titrated with 50.00 mL of 0.400 M nitric acid, how many

grams of the base are in the sample?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

    NaOH + HNO3 ---------------> NaNO3 + H2O

no of moles of HNO3 = molarity * volume in L

                                      = 0.4*0.05   = 0.02 moles

1 moles of HNO3 react with 1 moles of NaOH

0.02 moles of HNO3 react with 0.02 moles of NaOH

mass of NaOH = no of moles * gram molar mass

                           = 0.02*40   = 0.8g >>>>>answer
