A buffer is prepared by mixing 50.0 mL of 0.050 M acetic acid and 20.0 mL of 0.10 M sodium hydroxide. a) What is the pH? b) How many grams of HCl must be added to 25.0 mL of the buffer to change the pH by 0.07 units?

Answer #1

I have tried to explain it as simply as I can, if you still have any doubt feel free to comment. If you are satisfied with the answer, do give it a thumbs up.

Note- There is a correction. Since in part b the volume is given in milli litres i.e., 25 mL, so value of acetate ion and acetic acid will also come in milli moles i.e.,0.714 and 0.178 milli moles respectively. Subsequently, the amount of HCl will also come in milli moles i.e., 0.0248 milli moles which corresponds to 0.0009 g.
