(1) Polar covalent compound has a melting point of < 100°C . It is soluble in both water and polar organic . It will conduct electricity in molten and in water solution . e.g. Ammonia (NH3) .

(2) Ionic compound e.g. NaCl, MgO etc has a melting point of> 500°C and are soluble in water , slightly soluble in polar organic solvent and insoluble in non polar solvent. Also , they conduct electricity in water solution and in molten state

NaCl has a melting point of 800 °C .

MgO has a melting point of > 2500°C.
