The wedge and dash is used to represent 3D chemical molecule.a wedge is used to show a bond coming out of the plane paper or surface and a dash is used to show a bond going into the plane paper or surface This representation is the best representation around chiral carbons or each of the enantiomers.This model best representes the 3D molecule in 2D state.

If The molecule forms enantiomer from starting material,then it is not necessary to represent in wedge and dashes for the starting material. No information is lost due to this.
