If you isolate 0.114 g of phenol, 0.375 g of aniline, 0.611 g of phthalic acid, and 0.282 g of methyl benzoate, what is the percent composition of the mixture? What is the total recovery percentage? How much was lost and why?

Answer #1

0.114 g of phenol, 0.375 g of aniline, = 0.114 + 0.375 + 0.611 + 0.282 = 1.382 gm

0.611 g of phthalic acid, and 0.282 g of methyl benzoate

Weight percentage of phenol = 0.114 x 100 / 1.382 = 8.25%

Weight percentage of aniline = 0.375 x 100 / 1.382 = 27.13 %

Weight percentage of phthalic acid = 0.611 x 100 / 1.382 = 44.21 %

Weight percentage of methyl benzoate = 0.282 x 100 /1.382 = 20.41 %

To calculate the total recovery percentage we need how much weight you have taken all the compounds individually.
