What volume of water should be added to 65.0 mL of 0.0520 M KOH to produce a solution with a pH of 12.54?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

pH = 12.54

pH + pOH = 14

pOH = 14-12.54

pOH = 1.46

[OH-] = 10^-1.46

[OH-] = 0.0347 M = C2

C1 = 0.0520 M

V1 = 65.0 mL

C1 V1 = C2 V2

0.0520 x 65 = 0.0520 x V2

V2 = 97.5 mL

total volume of the solution = 97.5 mL

volume of water added = V2 - V1

                                      = 97.5 - 65.0

                                     = 32.5 mL

volume of water added = 32.5 mL
