A client who weighs 70.kg is receiving a dopamine solution of 800mg/500ml normal saline at 5ml/hr. how many ug/kg/minute is the client receiving?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer :

a) Determine the dose of dopamine per mL concentration

800 mg = 500 mL

x mg = 1 mL

x = 800 / 500 = 1.6 mg / mL

b) Convert mg to ug

1 mg = 1000 ug

1.6 mg = x ug

x = 1.6 * 1000 = 1600 ug

c) Amount of drug receiving = X

Patient weight = 70 kg

Number of minutes per hour = 60 min/hr

Drug concentration = 1600 ug / mL

Rate = 5 mL/hr

Amount of drug receiving (X)= Rate x Drug concentration / Patient weight x no of minutes in an hour

Amount of drug receiving (X) = (5 * 1600) / (70 * 60) = 8000 / 4200 = 1.9 ug/kg/min
