A- Write the neutralization reaction which occur between potassium hydroxide and acetic acid (im having problems understanding how to do this, could you explain?)

B- In lab, the concentration of bases like NaOH is frequently determined by standardization i.e., titration using a substance of known molar mass. The substance most commonly used is potassium hydrogen phthalate (KHP, KC8H5O4). What is the concentration of sodium hydroxide if 0.51 g of KHP neutralize 25.65 mL of sodium hydroxide?-

Answer #1

A) neutralization reaction :

KOH(aq) + CH3COOH(aq) ----> CH3COOK(aq) + H2O(l)

b)

KHP + NaOH ---> KNaP + H2O

1 mol KHP = 1 mol NaOH

no of mol of KHP reacted = w/Mwt

                         = 0.51/204.22

           = 0.0025 mol

no of molof NaOH reacted(n) = 0.0025 mol = 2.5 mmol

volume of NaOH reacted(v) = 25.65 ml

concentration of NaOH (M) = n/v

      = 2.5/25.65

      = 0.0975 M

In analytical chemistry, bases used for titrations must often be standardized; that is, their concentration must be precisely determined. Standardization of sodium hydroxide solutions can be accomplished by titrating potassium hydrogen phthalate (KHC8H4O4), also know as KHP, with the NaOH solution to be standardized. The titration of 0.5727 g of KHP required 24.70 mL of an NaOH solution to reach the equivalence point. What is the concentration of the NaOH solution?

Potassium hydrogen phthalate is a solid, monoprotic acid frequently used in the laboratory to standardize strong base solutions. It has the unwieldy formula of KHC8H4O4. This is often written in shorthand notation as KHP 1. How many grams of KHP are needed to exactly neutralize 36.8 mL of a 0.337 M sodium hydroxide solution ? 2. What volume of a 0.381 M barium hydroxide solution is needed to exactly neutralize 5.80 grams of KHP ? 3. If 4.19 grams of...

explain acid-base neutralization reaction and how it occurs? Write balanced chemical reactions (molecular, total ionic, and net ionic) for the following chemical reactions: a) Calcium Hydroxide(aq) and Hydroiodic acid(aq). b) Lithium Hydroxide(aq) and Nitric acid(aq). c) Barium Hydroxide(aq) and Sulfuric acid(aq).   A titration is performed between sodium hydroxide and KHP (204.2 g/mol) to standardize the base solution. You place 50.00 mg of solid KHP (Potassium hydrogen Phthalate HKC8H4O4 ) in a flask with a little water and a few drops...

Acid-Base Behavior In addition to following the general safety rules, chemicals need to be handled properly. In particular, two very important classes of compounds called acids and bases require special attention. These compounds are commonly used reagents in the laboratory; therefore, understanding their proper disposal is beneficial. Physical differences between acids and bases can be detected by the some of the five senses, including taste and touch. Acids have a sour or tart taste and can produce a stinging sensation...
