What is the absolute pressure (psia) in a containeer if its vacuum gauge reads 8.5 psi and a barameter reads 29 inches?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Absolute pressure , Pabs = Patm + Pgauge

Given Patm = barometer pressure = 29 inches       since 1 psi = 2.04 inches of Hg

                  = 29 / 2.04 psi

                  = 14.2 psi

       Pgauge = vacuum gauge pressure = 8.5 psi

Plug the values we get

Pabs = Patm + Pgauge

        = 14.2 + 8.5 psi

      = 22.7 psi

Atmospheric Pressure: 0.996792499 atm → converted to psi → 14.64881 psi Use 12.0 cm for the internal diameter of the spherical vessel if you need it. Use 100 psig for T = 20 °C. (psig is the gauge pressure in psi, in contrast to the psia being the absolute pressure in psi.) Don't forget to convert the gauge pressure to the absolute pressure using the atmospheric-pressure data from the weather site. Calculate (1) the absolute pressure in psia and (2)...

Process storage tanks are typically incapable of withstanding much pressure or vacuum. Standard tanks are designed for a maximum of 0.1-psi vacuum and 0.2 psi pressure. That is, they can withstand only a slight vacuum of 0.1 psi below atmospheric pressure and a slight excess pressure of 0.2 psi above atmospheric pressure, so that if atmospheric pressure is assumed to be 14.7 psia, then the tanks are rated for a pressure range of 14.6 to 14.9 psia. Question 6 Gauge pressure is the difference between actual pressure (or absolute pressure) at a point of a system, and atmospheric pressure. Essentially it is pressure within a fluid, either liquid or a gas, at depth. Car tyre pressure is reported as gauge pressure, since the compressed air inside the tyre is a fluid, and is the difference between actual pressure of the tyre and atmospheric pressure. Answer the following questions: a) What is the absolute pressure in the tyre,...
