Electrochemistry is strongly tied to redox reactions. What do you think will be most useful to you from your studies of redox reactions?
In any electrochemical process, electrons flow from one chemical substance to another, driven by an oxidation–reduction (redox) reaction. A redox reaction occurs when electrons are transferred from a substance that is oxidized to one that is being reduced. Redox describes all chemical reactions in which atoms have their oxidation number (oxidation state) changed.
Reactions in which there is a transfer of electrons is said to be an oxidation-reduction reaction or a redox reaction. A substance that loses electrons is said to be oxidized, and the substance that gains electrons is said to be reduced. Redox reactions can be used in electrochemical cells to produce electricity.
So the main thing in REDOX reactions is transfer of electrons and change in oxidation number.
