How would you show a visual end point on a titration curve? If its for a graph for pH vs. strong base added to a weak diprotic acid
ans- we know diprotic acid is a class of Arrhenius acids which are capable of donating two protons or hydrogen cations per molecule when dissociating in aqueous solutions.
H2SO4 + 2NaOH → Na2SO4 + 2H2O
sulfuric acid is diprotic, stoichiometry of the neutralization reaction is not 1:1, but 1:2 (1 mole of acid reacts with 2 moles of sodium hydroxide).as sulfuric acid is diprotic, we could expect titration curve with two plateaux and two end points. Even if the second dissociation constant is much lower than the first one (eg.pKa1 = -3, pKa2 = 1.99), it is still high enough to not give its own inflection point, and titration curve looks almost identical to that of hydrochloric acid.
so the end point of strong base vs weak diprotic acid will be calculted from first equivalence point. as shown in figg.
