what mass of sodium hydroxide is needed to make 750 ml of a 125 mM sodium hydroxide solution? (FW= 58.4 g)

please explain this in great detail as I am not very strong in chemistry....is there an equation or what is your reasoning behind the answer?

Answer #1

step-1 convert the millimolar (mM) in to Molar (M)

to convert this we have to divide given mM with 1000

125 mM convert in M = 125/1000 = 0.125 M

now use the direct Molarity formula formula

Molarity (M) = (mass of NaOH / molar mass of NaOH) x 1000 / volume in mL

M = molaarity that we got = 0.125 M

Mass of NaOH we have to calculate

molar mass of NaOH is 40 g/mol (from wiki)

volume of the solvent = 750 mL

plug in all these values in above equation

0.125M = (mass of NaOH / 40 g/mol ) x 1000 / 750

Mass of NaOH = 0.125   / 0.033

= 3.78 grams

The following questions involve the reaction of sodium hydroxide and succinic acid. Succinic acid is diprotic: the acid (H2C4H4O4) reacts with two of its hydrogens to give C4H4O42-.
