What is the difference between atomic mass and molar mass? I know atomic mass is measured in amu and molar mass in g/mol, but I don't know how to apply that difference practically.
Yes you are correct atomic mass has unit amu, that is, atomic mass unit and is calculated by taking the carbon atom as reference. Molar mass is the same quantity when when the mass of same atom is taken for 1 mole. for instance, atomic mass of oxygen is 16 amu and when the Molar mass is taken for oxygen that means 1 mole of oxygen atom will have mass equivalent to 16 g which is along referred to its gram atomic mass. Generally in calculationo the mass is taken for mole and all the calculations are performed by taking Molar ratio of substance. So; most commonly Molar mass is applied in calculation.
