Laser functions are different when compare with other light sources. Laser beams can be focused to very small spots. They have very low divergence in order to concentrate their power at a longer distance.

Generally laser are used to produce monochromatic light that means light with single wavelength. Cotinuum source produce light with all the wavelengths.

There are some lasers which can emit a broad spectrum of light that means they can emit different wavelengths of light simultaneously.
