Give the product, the conformation, and indicate the specific hydrogen that is removed

cis-1-t-butyl-4-chlorocyclohexane with KOC(CH3)3 in THF

Homework Answers

Answer #1

cis-1-t-butyl-4-chlorocyclohexane will undergo E2 animation. E2 mechanism will undergo by anti periplanar elimation of atom, that is atom in axial postion which are adjusant to each other are elimnated. In cis-1-t-butyl-4-chlorocyclohexane tert butyl group will be in equatorial postion due to steric hinderance where as chloro group will be in axial postion therefore adjusant axial hydrogen Ha will be eliminated as shown below due to anti periplanar elimation

tert-Butyl groups "lock" cyclohexanes into a conformation where the tert-butyl group occupies an equatorial position and the ring-flip equilibrium is essentially stopped. To verify this fact, write the ring-flip equilibrium of trans-1-tert-butyl-4-methylcyclohexane such that the least stable chair conformation is the product (this will cause the ΔE to be greater than (or equal to) zero. The number of bacteria in a refrigerated food product is given by N(T)=20T2?46T+3, 3<T <33 where T is the temperature of the food. When the food is removed from the refrigerator, the temperature is given by T(t)=2t+1.5, where t is the time in hours.
