Describe the effect of HCl (pH 4) in both the soap and detergent solutions. Include a chemical equation if a change (precipitate) occured
When acid is dropped into both soap & detergent solution to reach the pH of 4, precipitate formed for soap solution while no precipitate formed for detergent solution. Oil is emulsified for both soap & detergent solution. Soap is the sodium salts of fatty acid are water soluble when reacted with acid. Detergents are often water soluble on adding acid. so no precipitate formed.
