Explain the difference in recrystallization proceedures used depending on the compound to be purified and the nature of the contaminants.
Discuss the the % recovery you obtained. What are the causes of losses?
Recrystallization procedures depend on the compound to be purified and the nature of the contaminants. Suppose, if the compound and the impurity is soluble in hot and the compound insoluble or slightly soluble when the solvent is cold but the impurity is soluble in cold; then pure compound will result upon cooling. But if the impurity is not soluble in cold solvent, then impure compound will result upon cooling provided the compound is soluble in hot and insoluble in cold.
You cannot recover 100% of compound by recrystallization technique. Because small portion of compound always will be soluble in the cold solvent. But repeating the same procedure for a series of times will always result good yield.
