is it necessary that compounds be colored to be seperated by chromotography?

Answer #1

It is not necessary that compound we are separating by chromatography are coloured.as chromatography is a technique which deals with the speration of compounds from the stationary and mobile phase according to their charge, solubility and the molecular weight .

Let's take an example if some of the sample is colourless and it has molar mass more than the coloured one so in the stationary phase the colourless compounds stays more as it do not move fast as the coloured compound do as colourless is the one having more molar mass so it depends on several factors as Rf value, molar mass, charge , solubility etc. It does not depend on the Colour of the sample.

In maize, a dominant allele A is necessary for seed color as opposed to colorless a. Another gene has a recessive allele wx that results in waxy starch, as opposed to normal starch Wx. The two genes segregate independently. A true breed colorless, normal starch plant was crossed with a true breed colored, waxy plant. The offspring of that cross were selfed to produce an F2 generation. a. Give the genotypes and phenotypes (and ratios) of the P, F1, and...

Propose an Extraction Flowchart capable of separating the mixture (compounds in the box) into their pure forms (individual compounds). In each step, include all necessary reagents (organic solvents, aqueous solutions, drying agents) and manipulations (shaking/mixing, separating phases, filtering/decanting) in their proper order. Clearly indicate the structures of the compounds at each step in the process. Could you show me how to complete this using CH2Cl2 as the organic solvent? Thank you!

In order to analyze water samples using a spectrophotometer or plate reader, it is necessary to turn the molecules of nitrate into a dye molecule that can be quantified. The first step in turning nitrate (NO3-)  into a dye molecule is reducing it to a molecule of nitrite (NO2-). This is done by reacting the NO3- with cadmium. After the reduction reaction, the NO2- is reacted with two additional reagents. The first reagent, Reagent A, is a solution of sulfanilamide and...
