In their flat configurations, is cyclopentane or cyclopentanone more stable and why?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Dear Student,

In the flat configuration of cyclopentane, there is an angle strain which makes the molecule be little unstable. In the case of flat cyclopentane configuration, the bond angle is around 107o which is approximately close to the normal tetrahedral bond angle.

To make the molecule free from angle strain, the cyclopentane or cyclopentanone adapted envelop form which is much lesser angle strain in the molecule. Hence the envelop structure of cyclopentane is more stable than that of the flat configuration.

But however, there is no steric strain in the cyclopentane molecule.

Which of the following are reasons why DNA is a more stable store of genetic information than RNA? (select all that apply and explain the answer for each choice). 1. This is a trick question; RNA is more stable than DNA 2. DNA uses thymine instead of uracil as a nitrogenous base 3. DNA engages in base pairing while RNA does not 4. Estimate the fugacity of cyclopentane at 110 C and 275 bar. At 110 C the vapor pressure of cyclopentane is 5.267 bar. This question was solved in chegg. the author used Normal boiling point (Tn) to calculate the reduced temperature (Tnr) and then to find the Saturation volume (Vsat). why didn't he use the given temperature (110 C) instead ?
