How much work, in joules, does a piston do if its volume changes from 0.5L to 3.5L? The piston's internal pressure is constant at 5 atm. 1 L*atm = 101.33 J.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

W = pV

W   = p(v2-v1)

W   = 5atm

V1   = 0.5L

V2   = 3.5L

W   = p(v2-v1)

      = 5atm*(3.5-0.5)L

        = 15L-atm                           [1 L*atm = 101.33 J.]

          = 15*101.33J

            = 1519.95J
