vinyl chloride has the formula CH2=CHC1 and polymerizes to form polyvinyl chloride. what is the degree ofpolymerization of a polymer having an average molecular weight of about 33,000?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

molecular weight of monomer = 62.5 g/mol

CH2= CHCl = C2H3Cl = 2 x 12 + 3 x 1 + 35.5

                            = 62.5 g/mol

degree of polymerizaation = molecular weight / molecular weight of repeated unit

                                          = 33,000 / 62.5

degree of polymerizaation = 528
