2) Accuracy
In order to assess the accuracy of each technique a sample of a standard reference material NIST SRM 3280 was analysed. The certificate of analysis is available on Blackboard for you to consult. The preparation of the standard is given below. Using the data provided check the recovery of As obtained for both techniques.
A 0.5094g sample of NIST 3280 was digested in 10ml of nitric acid (8ml) and hydrochloric acid (2ml). The resulting solution was diluted to 25ml. This was then analysed by ICP-OES (calibrated 0-20ng/ml) and ICP-MS (calibrated 0-10ng/ml). The resulting solution gave the following calibration data and signals for the solution being analysed
ICP- OES |
ICP-MS |
|
Equation pf Calibration Line |
y=1.1713x + 0.3892 |
y=23.735x + 1.8857 |
Average Sample Reading (n-3) |
4.064 +/- 0.50 cts |
65.132 +/- 1.21 cts |
Using the numbers above calculate the % recovery, and comment on the results and the variability in the data provided
Hopefully this will help you.Thank you.
