Azeotropes are non-ideal solutions known as constant boiling mixtures.
these are mixtures of two liquids which boil at constant temperature and distill over the same composition.
they are of two types:
a) minimum boiling point azeotropes
b) maximum boiling point azeotropes
Azeotropes which boil at a temperature less than the that of pure liquids and shows positive deviation from ideal behaviour are known as Minimum boiling point azeotropes.
ex:mixture of ethanol and water.
Azeotropes which boil at a temperature more than that of pure liquids and show negative deviation from ideal behaviour are known as maximum boiling point azeotropes.
ex: nitric acid and water
