List al directions of <001> family of a tatragonal crystal

Homework Answers

Answer #1

(001) and (00-1) belongs to the (001) family of tetragonal crystal. (100) (010)(-100) (00-1) doesnt belong to the (001) family of tetragonal crystal.but in cubic system all 6 i.e (001) (010) (100) (-100) (0-10) (00-1) belong to the same family this is because in simple cube a=b=c where a,b,c are edge length at x axis,,y axis,z axis respectively.but in tetragonal system 3 edge length are not same.in tetragonal system edge length at x axis and edge length at y axis are same but edge lenth at z axis ae not same with previous 2.so (001) and (00-1) belongs to (001) family where the direction is from origin to positive z axis and negetive z axis respectively.

Question 1: (a) A perfect crystal of copper is tensile tested. The crystal is oriented so that the direction perpendicular to its slip plane is at 28° relative to the tensile direction. Consider three possible slip directions (relative to the tensile direction) of 81°, 72°, and 62.5°. Prove which of these is most favored. (b) For this favored direction, calculate the minimum shear stress required to initiate slip. Assume that this copper crystal plastically deforms beginning at a tensile stress...

(a) Using the method in Example 8.3, find the distance between the family of lattice planes with Miller indices [210] for a simple cubic lattice. (b) You have a simple cubic crystal with lattice constant of 0.3nm oriented with the surface of the crystal is parallel with the (100) planes. Calculate the angle an x-ray beam of wavelength 0.154nm needs to make with the surface of the crystal to produce a diffraction maximum from the [210] planes.
