Classify the following as homogeneous, heterogeneous or colloids.Milk, saline solution, wet sand

Homework Answers

Answer #1

(1) Milk is a colloid .It is an know as emulsion in which dispersed phase is liquid & dispersion medium is liquid.

(2) saline solution is an example of homogeneous solution, since in this NaCl is dissolved in water so that the formed solution is uniform and every part of the solution has the same properties.

(3) wet sand is an example of heterogeneous solution. A heterogeneous mixture is a type of mixture in which the components can be seen, as there are two or more phases present. Here there are two phases, one is the liquid & the other is the solid sand.

Saline solution is delivered into the vein of a patient through a needle. The saline solution has a viscosity of 0.00037 Pa.s, a density of 1,060 kg/m3, and is delivered through a 7.0-cm long needle with an internal diameter of 0.24 mm directly into the patient’s vein in which the blood pressure is 130 mmHg (1 mmHg=133.4 Pa).
