List three (3) criteria for nucleophilic aromatic substitution.
Three main Criteria/condition of Nucleophilic aromatic substitution :-
1) Aromatic ring should be electrophile.
2) Adding reagent should be nucleophile.&
3) Nature of intermediate should be carbanion.
While some other imp. criteria of nucleophilic aromatic substitution -
4) Electrong donating group (EDG) on the ring decrease the rate of nucleophilic aromatic substitution.
5) Electron withdrawing group (EWG) on the ring increase the rate of nucleophilic aromatic substitution.
The above given reaction is an example of Nucleophilic aromatic substitution.
Two main things occur in above reaction.
1) Breaking of sigma bond with aromatic ring and leaving group i.e. Cl
2) Formation of new sigma bond with Aromatic ring and Carbon atom of carbanion intermediate i.e.OCH3
