Na2S (Sodium sulphide) is generally used to depilate (deliberately remove body hair) by women and even in leather industries to remove hair from the skin of the animals. This chemicals acts by breaking the disulfide bonds in the cystine amino acid of keratin molecules. The keratin molecules are the basic proteins present in the hair. Due to the breakdown of disulfide bonds of its amino acid cystine, the keratin get weak and leave the roots of the skin. This allow the hair to get depilated from the skin of the body.
