a) Starch-borate and starch-glycerol polymers have been used for encapsulation of pharmaceutical drugs or pesticides. Explain what effect this might have and why it would be beneficial.
b) Are these polymers considered to be biodegradable? Why or why not?
Starch Borate Forms gel and break down gel particle to 10-35 mesh size which is suitable for drying. It has operating pH range of 9-11 and final pH range of 7.2-8.5. It is helpful in encapsulation of acid labile and alkali labile molecules.
Starch/PVA/glycerol blend increases water absorption capacity of film i.e. helpful in releasing of active molecule in wet environment.
Starch/PVA/Glycerol is biodegradable in presence of fungi and bacteria only remaining portion is non-amorphous region of PVA.
