Describe two techniques that can be used to induce crystallization
Nucleation is one example. Inorder to induce crystallization, scratch the inside surface of the container with a glass rod. This can result in producing small pieces of glass. This glass pieces will then act as a nuclei around which te crystal cangrow. The process is called nucleation.
Another example is seeding. In this method one or two crystals of the pure solute should be added to the solution. This also will provide a surface for the crystals to grow.
The basic chemistry behind both of these techniques is that a crystal solute will be able to move randomly in a solution and can thus cause more intermolecular interactions. These interactions can lead to the formation of a basic lattice on the surface of the crystal. Hence the process of crystallization can be induced.
