1) Why can 2 electrode systems be used for potentiometry measurements but not for voltammetry measurements? In other words, why do you need a 3 electrode system for voltammetry?
2) Briefly explain the effect of convection or stirring of solution on voltamic measurements. What is a voltammetry measurement, why do these effect the measurments?
Post one problem per question, post one more question to get the answer to the second problem. Thanks
1) The 3 electrode system is required for voltammetry since the 3rd electron also referred as counter electrode keeps the track that current doesn't go through the reference electrode, because this will lead to difference in the potential value of electrode and will lead to errors in the calculations of electrode potential
The counter electrode is much larger than the reference electrodes so that there is no potential drop due to the presence of counter electrode
