A balloon filled with helium has a volume of 40.9 L at 301 K. What volume will the balloon occupy at 269 K?
We know that PV = nRT
Where P-pressure , V-volume , n - number of moles , R - gas constant , T - temperature
As the gas doesnot change , n is constant .R & P also not changed .
So V/ T = constant.
V/T = V'/T'
Where
V = initial volume = 40.9 L
V' = final volume = ?
T= initial temperature = 301 K
T' = final temperature = 269 K
Plug the values we get
V' = VT' / T
= ( 40.9 x 269 ) / 301
= 36.5 L
Therefore the volume occupied 36.5 L
