Why is there little concern about HFOs as a greenhouse gas?
Ans:
Global warming is primarily due to excess of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. There are many heat-trapping gases from methane to water vapor, but CO2 puts the greatest risk of irreversible changes if it continues to accumulate unabated in the atmosphere.
Other gases have more potent heat-trapping ability molecule per molecule than CO2 (e.g. methane), but are far less abundant in the atmosphere and being added more slowly.
Combustion of HFOs also add CO2, CO, CH4, Sox and NOX in the atmosphere. It is a fact that use of HFO became essential in today world. Further, at present there is no other suitable alternative for HFO is available so far.
These are some of the reason that there is little concern about HFOs as a greenhouse gas.
