Why is there little concern about HFOs as a greenhouse gas?

Why is there little concern about HFOs as a greenhouse gas?

Answer #1

Ans:

Global warming is primarily due to excess of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. There are many heat-trapping gases from methane to water vapor, but CO2 puts the greatest risk of irreversible changes if it continues to accumulate unabated in the atmosphere.

Other gases have more potent heat-trapping ability molecule per molecule than CO2 (e.g. methane), but are far less abundant in the atmosphere and being added more slowly.

Combustion of HFOs also add CO2, CO, CH4, Sox and NOX in the atmosphere. It is a fact that use of HFO became essential in today world. Further, at present there is no other suitable alternative for HFO is available so far.

These are some of the reason that there is little concern about HFOs as a greenhouse gas.

Carbon dioxide, which is recognized as the major contributor to global warming as a "greenhouse gas," is formed when fossil fuels are combusted, as in electrical power plants fueled by coal, oil, or natural gas. One potential way to reduce the amount of CO2 added to the atmosphere is to store it as a compressed gas in underground formations. Consider a 1000-megawatt coal-fired power plant that produces about 7×106 tons of CO2 per year. 1. Assuming ideal gas behavior, 1.00...

Possible Duplicate: What experiments prove the greenhouse effect? I am seeking for a proof that CO2 is a greenhouse gas. I posted this on Skeptic.SE recently but found no help in seeking for proof: I assisted to a physicist conference in my university a few years ago against the case that carbon dioxide was a cause of global warming. The main point was that CO2 is not a greenhouse gas. I did a research to find evidence for either side...

. Many developing countries argue that they should be exempt from international regulation of global greenhouse gas emissions. Their argument is based on the premises that the developed world is largely responsible for the current levels of carbon in the atmosphere, and that regulation would prevent them from ever achieving a standard of living that approaches that of the developed world. Given what you know about the nature of climate change should they be exempt from treaties that limit greenhouse...
