With the aid of a molecular model, identify the stereoisomers of 2,3-butanediol. Identify the R or S configuration for each stereoisomer, and identify which ones are enantiomers, diastereomers or meso compounds.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

If both stereocenters are mirror image of each other then they should be called as Enantiomers.

(2R, 3R) and (2S, 3S) isomers are called enantiomers.

If two stereoisomers are not super imposable then they will be called as diastereomers.

(2S, 3S) and (2S, 3R) - are diastereomers

(2R, 3R) and ( 2S, 3R) - are also diastereomers

SIn same molecule if half of the molecule is mirror image of other half molecule then they will be called as meso compound.

(2R, 3S) isomer is meso compound.

Molecular set #4: Construct the compound cyclopropane (C3H6). Draw the 3D model. State the shape of the molecule. State the probable bond angles Compare these angles to the normal bond angles for alkanes. State a conclusion about possible strain in the molecule. Now replace two hydrogens, one each on adjacent carbon atoms, with chlorines. This creates dichlorocyclopropane, C3H4Cl2. Move one chlorine atom so that you have built both the cis and the trans isomers of this compound. These are called...

Overview Your assignment is to complete a wireless network design for a small company. You will place a number of network elements on the diagram and label them appropriately. A network diagram is important to communicate the design features of a network between network administrators, system administrators and cyber-security analysts. It helps to create a shared mental model between these different technologists, yet each will have their own perspective on what is important to have documented on the diagram. Please...
