Question

why j value is bigger at lower magnetic field?

why j value is bigger at lower magnetic field?

Answer #1

The 1H NMR spectrum of ethanol (below) shows the methyl peak has been split into three peaks (a triplet) and the methylene peak has been split into four peaks (a quartet). This occurs because there is a small interaction (coupling) between the two groups of protons. The spacings between the peaks of the methyl triplet are equal to the spacings between the peaks of the methylene quartet. This spacing is measured in Hertz and is called the coupling constant,

  • The coupling constant is not dependant on the applied field. Multiplets can be easily distinguished from closely spaced chemical shift peaks.

I've come upon Dr. J. Marvin Herndon's theory that the earth's magnetic field is generated by a hot nuclear reactor operating in the center of the earth. This is backed by various papers, some of them peer reviewed: http://www.nuclearplanet.com/Herndon%27s%20Nuclear%20Georeactor.html His theory purports to explain various anomalies such as the high level of He3 in basalt in Hawaii and their dependency with time. A recent Herndon arXiv paper is: Uniqueness of Herndon's Georeactor: Energy Source and Production Mechanism for Earth's Magnetic...

A loop of wire sits in a uniform magnetic field, everywhere pointing toward you. Due to a changing magnetic flux through the loop, an induced current flows in the wire, clockwise as shown. The area of the loop is J. 1.63 m2 , and the magnetic field initially has magnitude K. 0.61 T. Can the Earth's magnetic field affect experimental measurements of magnetic field in coils? In an experiment, the magnetic field B of a large coil was measured using a small coil. Can the Earth's magnetic field affect the observed measurements of B? If so, how would it affect the signals experimentally measured from the small coil?
