is there any substitute for butyl lithium. i need is for a lab experiment but the school lab doesn't have any
n-Butyl Lithium is used as a strong base, similar bases are :
1. Lithium diisopropylamide (LDA)
[(CH3)2CH]2NLi
2. Lithium diethylamide (LDEA)
(C2H5)2NLi
3. Sodium amide (NaNH2)
4. Sodium hydride (NaH)
5. Lithium bis(trimethylsilyl) amide
[(CH3)3Si2NLi
If you are looking for any base to abstract little acidic proton such as alpha to carbonyl, then NaH or NaNH2 also serves the perpose. But before using these bases please go through MSDS and check with the lab instructor.
