The solubility of which of the following salts will not be affected by pH?
a) Hg2SO4 b) HgS c) Hg(OH)2 d) Hg2F2 e) Hg2Br2

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer :- (a)Hg2SO4 (b)Hg2Br2

--- Hg2SO4 on ionisation it produce SO4-- ion which weak conjugate base of strong acid and is neutral . Thus solubility does not affected by pH. Similarly Hg2Br2 produce weak conjugate base so solubility uneffected with pH.

-- HgS and Hg2F2 are salt of weak acid produce strong conjugate base and there solubility affected with pH.

Hg(OH)2 in ionisation produce OH- ion , that interact with pH change hence solubility affected with pH change.
