Calculate the number of moles of magnesium, chlorine, and oxygen atoms in 8.20 moles of magnesium perchlorate, Mg(ClO4)2.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Chemical formula of Magnesium perchlorate is Mg(ClO4)2.

Molecular formula hence, MgCl2O8 .

Hence,

1) 1 mole of Mg(ClO4)2 = 1 mole of Mg atoms

So, 8.20 moles of Mg(ClO4)2 = 8.20 moles of Mg atoms.

==================================

2)1 mole of Mg(ClO4)2 = 2 moles of Cl atoms

So, 8.20 moles of Mg(ClO4)2 =2 x 8.20 = 16.40 moles of Cl atoms.

==================================

3)1 mole of Mg(ClO4)2 = 8 moles of O atoms.

So, 8.20 moles of Mg(ClO4)2 = 8 x 8.20 = 65.60 moles of O atoms.
