Question

which of the following is least likely to disolve in benzene I2 pentane CaCl2 cyclohexane

which of the following is least likely to disolve in benzene

I2 pentane CaCl2 cyclohexane

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Like dissolves like therefore Pentane and cyclohexane are organic compounds and therefore easily dissolve in non-polar solvents like benzene.

Benzene molecules are held to each other by weaker forces, weak enough so that they can be compensated by the new forces created by dissolving iodine in it, therefore I2(iodine) also dissolves in benzene.

Even though CaCl2 compound is non-polar it has two polar bonds. Therefore, CaCl2 will not dissolve in benzene.

CaCl2 is least likely to dissolve in benzene.
