The state of hybridization of the triple bonded carbons in benzyne is…………….

Homework Answers

Answer #1

I have drawn and attached an image of the benzyne molecule below with the hybridization of each carbon atom written next to it. To determine hybridization, find the regions of electron density around the carbon atom. The 2 carbon atoms that have a triple bond and a single bond are sp hybridized since there are only 2 regions of electron density around them. The other 4 carbon atoms are sp2 hybridized because they have 3 regions of electron density around them (2 single bonds and a double bond)

The N2F2 molecule has the two nitrogens as the central atoms. State the hybridization that exists at the nitrogen atoms.Draw the Lewis structure and predict the ideal bond angles around nitrogen in N2F2 using the molecular shape given by the VSEPR theory. Explain why some molecules of N2F2 are found to be polar and others are non-polar. (You may use diagrams to illustrate your answer.)
